Shoveling Snow Into Road Illegal

From Staff

While snow covers all of North Idaho, commissioners of the Post Falls Highway District want people to remember it’s illegal to intentionally shovel snow into a public road or right of way.

“It’s getting to be more and more of a problem each year,” said Lynn Humphreys, chairman.

Once snow freezes in the roads, it causes a hazard to automobiles, their drivers and the district’s snowplows, Humphreys said.

According to the district, people who intentionally shovel snow into a public road or right of way while clearing their own land, will be given a warning. If the owner doesn’t heed the warning, they will be held liable and could be prosecuted.

Humphreys said all roads and right of ways within the Post Falls district will be checked for violators.
