‘Magnolia’ Moment

“Magnolia” is not for everybody. It’s over three hours long, is about struggle, is concerned with characters who tend mostly to live questionable lifestyles. And it tells multiple stories at once. Yet “Magnolia” has a feel of greatness about it, a sense that its writer-director, Paul Thomas Anderson, is a budding filmmaking master.
