Owner Gets Delay For Gravel Pit Hearing
A road foreman for the East Side Highway District has asked for more time before his planned gravel pit goes before the Kootenai County hearing examiner.
Verland Woempner, 58, plans to sell the gravel he extracts from his land near Squaw Bay to his employer, the highway district.
Cheri Howell, Kootenai County planning director, said Woempner requested the delay because he wasn’t ready.
The plan was scheduled to go before the hearing examiner next Thursday. It has now been postponed to March 2, Howell said.
Neighbors are fighting the plan, fearing it will cause erosion, dust and noise to an area with many residential homes.
