Two Washington State University men met NCAA provisional qualifying times and two other Cougars set Thorpe Fieldhouse records at the Eastern Washington University Early Bird Open Indoor Track Meet Saturday in Cheney.

Junior All-American hurdler Arend Watkins opened the indoor season with an NCAA provisional qualifying time, winning the 55-meter hurdles in 7.33.

Cougars sophomore Anson Henry won the men’s 55-meter dash with a personal-best and provisional qualifying time of 6.26 seconds. Also in the 55 meters, Eastern Washington’s Johnnie Williams set the fourth school sprinting record of his career with a 6.28 time. He tied the mark set by Anthony Robinson in 1982.

In the men’s pole vault, senior Tony Boitano and freshman Rick Collins (Spokane) both cleared 16 feet to tie for first as Cougars finished first through fourth.

WSU swept the field in dual-meet scoring. The women’s team defeated Washington 54-40, and EWU, 51-41. In men’s dual scoring, WSU edged UW 51-50 and defeated EWU 48-42.
