Suspect Arrested After Pullman Standoff

A 21-year-old man wanted on two felony warrants for fraud in Idaho locked himself in a Pullman motel Sunday, tried to slit his throat with a steak knife and then leapt from the room’s second-story window, according to Pullman police.

Russell Gordon Clark was tracked to a Quality Inn in Pullman by police around 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The University of Idaho student had locked himself inside a room and would not respond to officer’s phone calls or knocks.

Just before 4 p.m., Clark jumped from his room’s window and ran across Bishop Boulevard. He was tackled by three police officers as he attempted to escape.

Inside the motel room, officers found an unloaded .45-caliber semiautomatic pistol and a bloody steak knife. Clark had apparently tried to slit his wrists and throat with the blade, police said.

His injuries were considered minor however, according to Officer Jason Taylor.

Clark was taken to Pullman Memorial Hospital for treatment. Police then took him to the Whitman County Jail in Colfax, where he was being held for Moscow Police.
