In a boost for struggling Olympic fundraisers, Marriott International Inc. signed on as an official supplier of hotel rooms for Salt Lake City’s 2002 Winter Games with a pledge worth at least $5 million.

The planned Olympic Village in Athens, Greece, should have the most stringent earthquake-resistant design, and there’s only a “one-in-a-million chance” the project will be moved from near the epicenter of 1999’s 5.9 quake that killed 143 people, the head of the 2004 organizing committee said.

Former Eastern Washington University player and assistant coach Brent Myers, 39, offensive coordinator at Boise State last season, has joined the University of Arizona football staff to coach tight ends and the offensive line.

Sondra van Ert of the United States won a snowboard giant slalom over France’s Karine Ruby in Switzerland, and moved into the lead in the World Cup standings.
