From Staff Reports

Idaho has netted more than $350,000 in federal grants for wetlands protection. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced the grants this week.

Local governments have agreed to provide matching funds.

The Coeur d’Alene Tribe will get nearly $50,000 to gauge the biological health of reservation wetlands, provide criteria for identifying “outstanding resource waters” for protection, and measure restoration efforts.

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game will get more than $103,000 to work on wetlands restoration on the Palouse and develop an environmental education program.

The Nez Perce Tribe will receive $40,000 for evaluating wetlands on the reservation.

The Fish and Game Department’s conservation data center will get $130,000 for a centralized wetland information system for the Salmon and Payette river watersheds.

The Idaho Division of Environmental Quality will get nearly $30,000 to establish a liaison between government agencies and private landowners working on water-quality problems in streamside areas and wetlands.
