Brazilian Pianist Performs With Spokane Symphony
Arnaldo Cohen was never supposed to be a concert pianist. His family intended for him to be an engineer. The fates intervened, and many connoisseurs of piano playing consider Cohen to have become one of the grand masters of the instrument. The Brazilian pianist conviced many here of his mastery when he performed with the Spokane Symphony in 1997.
Tonight, Cohen returns to Spokane to play Rachmaninoff’s infrequently performed Piano Concerto No. 4 with the orchestra. The program, conducted by Fabio Mechetti, also includes Dvorak’s “New World” Symphony and Revueltas’ exotic tone poem “Sensemaya.”
Pianist Linda Siverts, the symphony’s principal keyboardist, will discuss the evening music in a pre-concert lecture at 7 p.m.; the concert begins at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $16 to $32 and are available through the symphony box office in the Seafirst Building, 624-1200, or through G&B, 325-SEAT, (800) 325-SEAT or on the Web at www.ticketswest.com.
