Bursting out of the blocks with an 11-0 run and a 16-2 lead, George Fox defeated Whitworth 84-64 Saturday in a Northwest Conference game played at the Wheeler Sports Center in Newberg, Ore.
Ryan Nelson hit a pair of free throws at 13:33 to get Whitworth on the board. The Pirates’ first basket came at 10:40, on a 3-pointer by Chase Williams.
The Bruins led by 20 points at 39-19 with 3:27 remaining in the half and 42-26 at the break. The Pirates drew within 11 points, but no closer, in the second half.
For Whitworth, Kevin McDaniel recorded a doubledouble with 17 points and 17 rebounds. Kelson Ramey chipped in 13 points, and Nelson added 10.
Travis Melvin led George Fox with 17 points. James Macy scored 16, Jordan Green 12 and Ryan Cruz 11 for the Bruins.

The Cardinals, down to six players for their road trip, defeated Treasure Valley at Ontario, Ore.
Jerry Petty scored 21 points to lead NIC, which rallied from a 41-32 halftime deficit. Damon Hunter scored 18 and Russell Ware 16 for NIC.
The Cardinals’ rally was buoyed by 68 percent shooting from the field in the second half, including 4 of 5 on their 3-point attempts. Petty made 6 of his 8 attempts from 3-point distance.
