If you live in the Lakeland School District, don’t forget to vote today.

Voters will decide today whether to approve a proposed two-year, $1.5 million supplemental levy for the district. The money would be used to ease overcrowding by building additions at Athol and Garwood elementary schools and at Timberlake Junior/Senior High School.

The estimated tax rate for the levy is 78 cents per $1,000 of taxable market value. However, district administrators point out that the district’s total levy decreased by 73 cents per $1,000 in the past year.

If the levy is approved, construction would begin in the spring and be complete by August.

People can vote from noon until 8 p.m. at the following polling places: Athol, Betty Kiefer, Garwood, John Brown, and Spirit Lake elementary schools, Bayview Community Center, and Hauser Lake or Twin Lake fire stations.
