Rose Johnson Coeur d’Alene
Visitation for Rose A. Johnson, 72, will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene Service is planned for 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Boswell Hall/Schuler Auditorium at North Idaho College. Graveside service will follow at 4:30 p.m. at Grandview Cemetery in Bonners Ferry.
Mrs. Johnson, who was born in Oakesdale, Wash., died Sunday.
She lived in Bonners Ferry and Boise before settling in Coeur d’Alene in 1945. She graduated in 1946 from Coeur d’Alene High School.
Mrs. Johnson received a registered nursing degree in 1950 from St. Luke’s School of Nursing. . She began working in Christian ministry in 1952, serving in various areas of Washington state. She moved to Hawaii in 1984, and to California in 1989. She returned to Washington in 1998 and recently moved to Coeur d’Alene.
Survivors include a sister, Florence Sylvester of Spokane; a brother, Vern Johnson of Coeur d’Alene; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Mary `Velma’ Armstrong Spokane
Graveside service for Mary “Velma” Armstrong, 90, will be at 11 a.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Armstrong, who was born in Princeton, Idaho, died Thursday. She was a 68-year Spokane resident.
She was a homemaker and a 50-year member of the Hillyard Church of God.
Her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Arlie Guillotte and Carolyn Shanklin, both of Spokane; two sons, Alden Armstrong of Santa Maria, Calif., and Rolland Armstrong of Ritzville, Wash.; 16 grandchildren and numerous grea-tgrandchildren.

Patricia Clapp Spirit Lake, Idaho
Visitation for Patricia “Pat” Clapp, 60, will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Service is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.
Mrs. Clapp, who was born in Walla Walla, died Saturday.
She grew up and graduated from high school in Walla Walla. She was trained to be a dental assistant and worked in Walla Walla for eight years.
In 1969 she married Lyle Clapp, and they moved to the Coeur d’Alene area in 1974, eventually settling in Spirit Lake.
Mrs. Clapp was a member of First Christian Church in Walla Walla and Coeur d’Alene, and taught Sunday school and also volunteered in the church nursery.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Serena Baker of Rathdrum, Idaho, and Tricia Landers of Spirit Lake; her father, Vernon Strode of Walla Walla; a sister, Linda Tinker of Walla Walla; and five grandchildren.
Marian Sweeney Rathdrum, Idaho
Memorial service for Marian S. Sweeney, 81, will be today at 2 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene. Mrs. Sweeney, who was born in Minneapolis, Minn., died Thursday.
She graduated from high school in Ithaca, N.Y., and then moved to Morton, Wash. In 1956 she moved to Southern California.
She married John Sweeney in 1965, and they lived in California until settling in Kamiah, Idaho, in 1973.
The couple moved to Hamilton, Mont., in 1982, and to Rathdrum in 1994.
Mrs. Sweeney was active in environmental issues and quilting.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Dale Young of Bremerton and Mark Young of Hayden Lake, Idaho; a daughter, Michaelea Broughton of Fresno, Calif.; two brothers, Robert Goodsall of Ithaca and James Gutsell of North Carolina; a sister, Susan Gutsell of California; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Bonnita `Bonnie’ Morris Rathdrum, Idaho
Memorial service for Bonnita “Bonnie” M. Morris, 59, will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Athol (Idaho) American Legion Post 149. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of cremation.
Mrs. Morris, who was born in North Dakota, died Sunday.
She grew up in North Dakota and moved to Seattle in 1957, where she finished high school prior to marrying Willie “Bill” Morris in 1960.
She and her husband moved to St. Maries in 1965, and to Alaska in 1983.
They settled in Coeur d’Alene in 1986.
They served as foster parents to several children.
Mrs. Morris was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary and had coached baseball and softball in Alaska and St. Maries. Mrs. Morris was active in gardening, woodworking, hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation.
Survivors include her husband; a son, William Morris of Oregon; three daughters, Tammy Morris of Coeur d’Alene, Tonja Reed of Hayden Lake, Idaho, and Trisha Thompson of Post Falls; her mother, Louise Braaten of St. Maries; a brother, Dale Braaten of St. Maries; a sister, Elouise Carlson of Ellensburg; five grandchildren and numerous foster children.

Walter `Jerry’ Stoddard Spokane
Memorial service for Walter George “Jerry” Stoddard, 72, was Saturday at Hillyard Assembly of God Church. Born in Coeur d’Alene, Mr. Stoddard died July 3.
He was a carpenter.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, June; a son, Berdette Stoddard, and a daughter, Melody Fowler, both of Spokane; several stepchildren; two sisters, both of Spokane; three brothers, all of Idaho; and several grandchildren.
John Franklin Lewiston
Service for John H. Franklin, 82, was Monday at the Church of the Nazarene in Princeton, Idaho. Burial followed at Freeze Cemetery north of Potlatch, Idaho.
Mr. Franklin, who was born in Liberal, Kan., died Thursday.
He married Jean Jordan in 1938 and they lived in Spokane. He drove a taxi before joining the Army prior to World War II. He re-enlisted in 1944 and was discharged in 1946.
Mr. Franklin worked in construction, was a truck driver and worked on the Dworshak and Lower Granite dams. He also worked on construction of Highway 95 along the Salmon River.
He lived in Moscow, Idaho, from 1952 to 1980. In 1980 he moved to Princeton, and to Lewiston two months ago.
He was a member of the Teamsters Union in Lewiston.
His wife died in 1997.
Survivors include a son, Michael Franklin of Princeton; a daughter, Sharon Falen of Orovada, Nev.; two brothers, Juddie Franklin of Harvard, Idaho, and Arthur Franklin of Moscow; five sisters, Erma Nygaard of Moscow, Gladys Bale of Boise, Arnetta Harris of Pullman, Venita Needham of Princeton and Helen Christiansen of San Diego; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Roberta Kovick Spokane
Memorial service for Roberta J. Kovick, 81, will be at 1 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.
Born in Victor, Mont., Mrs. Kovick died Saturday.
She was a 41-year Spokane resident and a homemaker.
Her husband, Roddy, died in 1983.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Baker of Spokane and Gail Hickey of Las Vegas; a son, Ron Kovick of New Plymouth, Idaho; three brothers, Don Hickey of Spokane, Bruce Hickey of Kellogg, and Ray Hickey of Washougal, Wash.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
