Sorry to see Babcock go

I am so saddened by Coach Babcock’s decision to leave Spokane.

When the puck drops this fall and the 1999-2000 champion banners go up, it just won’t be the same without him. What a class act he has been for this city.

One thing you could always count on in his team was that they never gave up, no matter what place the Chiefs finished in. I will always have fond thoughts of Coach Babcock, especially standing on the bench and arguing with the referees, who usually always deserved it.

On behalf of thousands of Chiefs fans, I want to thank him for everything he has done for our hockey team, and for Spokane. What a great ambassador of hockey. May you always feel welcome in coming back to check on the progress of your Chiefs.

You will be deeply missed. Good luck in Cincinnati, and again thank you for everything you have done for this city and its hockey team. Tom Harding Spokane

Rude marshal ruins golf outing

It is time to marshal the marshals at Hangman Valley Golf Course.

On June 24, 2000, a group of out-of-state guests and myself were playing at Hangman Valley Golf Course when the marshal rudely told us to speed play immediately due to an opening in front of us. The comical matter here is that we were ahead of the group behind us by more than a complete hole!

I have been an avid golfer for 20 years and have never been marshaled on the course when there was no group either behind nor in front. I also was astonished how the marshal felt the right to be so belittling to paying customers.

The Pro Shop, although pleasant about the misfortune, really did not care that our round had been ruined while we were followed by the marshal for several holes. We played our round in 4 hours and 15 minutes and were harassed for slow play! It was a most unpleasant experience for all.

Did I mention it is time to marshal the marshals? Rich More Spokane
