82-Year-Old Tekoa Man Scores Aces On Consecutive Days
Virg Currier isn’t the bragging kind.
Which is why his daughter, Donna Thomas, didn’t learn about her 82-year-old father’s consecutive-day holes-in-one until she took him to dinner at the Senior Citizens Center in Tekoa late Thursday afternoon.
“I heard him say something about it to someone there,” Thomas said. “I didn’t even know it had happened until then. But then, he’s not one to get excited about things.”
Currier, who retired from his job as a conductor for Union Pacific Railroad 20 years ago, accomplished his rare feat at the Tekoa Golf Club, acing the 108-yard 8th hole on Wednesday and the 167-yard 5th on Thursday.
“We got a little ol’ skins game a few of us guys play,” said Currier, who is one of the founders of the course, which opened in 1960, “and I really cleaned up.”
Currier, who had three previous aces, used a 7-iron to record his ace on Wednesday and then knocked a 3-wood into the cup on Thursday, noting “I usually like to use a little extra club.”
Currier has lived in Tekoa since 1942 and has played golf extensively since retiring. He currently carries a nine-hole handicap of about 10 and said his low nine-hole total at Tekoa is a 37.
