Board Will Link Tribe, College
The Nez Perce Tribe and Lewis-Clark State College will establish a board to strengthen the relationship between the school and the tribe.
“It will help us expand our efforts to increase the number of Nez Perce students at the college, to better educate our young people,” said Samuel Penney, chairman of the Nez Perce Tribal Executive Committee.
A memorandum of understanding signed Friday set up the advisory board, which reports to the LCSC president and the tribal executive committee chairman. Its purpose includes promoting “a campus climate conducive to meeting the cultural needs of the Nez Perce Tribe.” Rita Morris, acting president and provost and vice president for academic affairs, signed the agreement on behalf of the college.
The four-year state college has 151 Native American students, 80 of whom are Nez Perce.
