Firefighters Save Houses From Grass Fire

A grass fire in Post Falls burned down a barn and threatened two homes Saturday afternoon.

The one-acre fire was reported to the Post Falls Fire Department about 4:30 p.m. and was put out by 8:30 p.m.

About 25 firefighters battled the blaze, said Post Falls firefighter Duane Hanna. Crews came from the Post Falls, Hayden Lake, Hauser Lake, Coeur d’Alene, Rathdrum and Kootenai fire departments.

“The wind was burning, and when it spread to the barn it made for a lot of work,” Hanna said.

One home on the five-acre piece of property was threatened by the fire, as well as another home 200 feet away. Neither was damaged.

No one was injured.
