Legion baseball

Tim Miller’s double touched off a four-run fourth inning that helped the Spokane Storm defeat Woodard Construction 7-5 Saturday at Mt. Spokane High School and reach the semifinals of the Junior American Legion playoffs.

The Whitman County Cougars scored six runs in the third and took an 8-1 victory over Spokane Olympic Sports at University HS that wrapped up their second-round series.

The Storm will open their best-of-3 semifinal series against Northwest Athletics today at Mead High School. The Cougars will take on Kimmel Athletic at Ferris High in their opener.

Both games are scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Woodard Construction almost pulled out its game with the Storm. Trailing 7-4, the hosts loaded the bases with none out, but scored only once.

John White pitched his seventh victory for the Cougars. David White belted a two-run double and Andy Gylling singled in two runs to highlight the six-run inning.
