Judy, Panabaker Discuss Dispute

From Staff Reports

Coeur d’Alene Mayor Steve Judy and Kootenai County Commission Chairman Dick Panabaker met Wednesday in an effort to decide how much the county will pay to complete the annexation agreement for the new work release center.

Talks had stalled for two weeks until Wednesday when Judy and Panabaker discussed the issue in a closed meeting.

“We talked some things through. The commission will give us a proposal (today) and hopefully we’ll get it resolved,” Judy said. “The City Council could pass it next Tuesday night.”

County leaders had balked at the $44,000 annexation fee for land on the north end of the Kootenai County Fairgrounds that is being transformed into a work release center and recreational vehicle dump station.

Kootenai County Commissioner Dick Compton said the city and county are close to an agreement. “The bottom line is there are some compromises being made that will be beneficial both to the city and county,” Compton said.
