3 From Wallace High Receive UI Scholarships
Lindsay Carrico, Heather Gregory, Jarod Lee and Craig Zanetti, all Wallace High School graduates enrolling at the University of Idaho, have been selected to receive a $1,000 David W. Morehouse Scholarship.
The awards are renewable for four years and began as a scholarship endowment in the will of former Hecla Mining Co. accountant David W. Morehouse.
Darren Lee has been selected as first alternate and Timothy Fleming will serve as second alternate.
Ryan White, son of Michael B. White of Coeur d’Alene and Elaine Judd Harris of Butte, Mont., recently departed for Washington, D.C., to serve as a summer intern for the congressional office of Idaho Sen. Mike Crapo.
White, who is the grandson of Rep. June E. Judd, will return in August for his senior year at the University of Idaho, where he will study business and politial science.
Heath P. Carkuff of Bonners Ferry, Robert J. King of Coeur d’Alene and Derik R. Rimel of St. Maries recently graduated from the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls.
Erik A. Walt, son of Thomas Walt of Deborah Silloway-Walt of Athol, has enlisted in the Army’s delayed entry program as a fire support specialist. He will depart for basic training at Fort Sill, Okla., in July.
Walt qualifies for a $14,000 cash incentive due to enlistment choice and test score.
David R. Buford, son of John and Kathleen Buford of Coeur d’Alene, has enlisted in the Army’s delayed entry program as an imagery ground station operator and qualifies for up to $40,000 under the Army College Fund Program.
Buford is a senior at Lake City High School and will leave for basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C., in August.
Khristian A. Kitselman, son of Glen and Deborah Kitselman of Coeur d’Alene, recently enlisted in the Army Reserve’s delayed training program as a combat engineer and will depart for basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., late this month.
Kitselman qualifies for a $3,000 cash incentive and has enrolled in the loan repayment program, which means for each year of service, the reserve will reduce his indebtedness on a guaranteed student loan by 15 percent or $500, whichever is greater, up to $10,000.
