Mentoring Programs Seeking Volunteers

Two mentoring programs in Spokane are searching for volunteers willing to work with struggling individuals.

The Childbirth and Parenting Alone program, run by Catholic Charities, seeks volunteers for its Doula Project, which matches mentors to young, single pregnant women.

Volunteers are required to be parents and must make a one-year commitment, have a high school education and be over age 26. Applications are now being accepted and training will begin in the fall. Call 325-7667 for more information or to apply.

SpokaneWorks is recruiting Family Friend volunteers who will commit to spending one hour a week for one year with people making the transition from welfare to work. Volunteer training will be held June 24 from 9 to 3 p.m. at the Northeast Community Center, 4001 N. Cook. Call 325-7674 for more information.

PGA pros exhibition

Gallery tickets are being sold by the Junior League for a golf exhibition featuring a PGA foursome. Golfers Mark O’Meara, Mark Calcavecchia, Stuart Appleby and Hubert Green will play Monday at 1 p.m. at The Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course.

Tickets are available for $45 and may be purchased by calling 458-0738 or (208) 765-4000, ext. 21. People looking for an all-day golfing experience can purchase $200 tickets that include a clinic, gourmet lunch and a 19th hole dinner party.

Proceeds from the event will benefit various projects run by the Junior League of Spokane.
