Have You Put Your Freedom ‘On Ice’?

Nancy Huseby Bloom The Spokesma

Dear Nancy: Recently, I’ve had several dreams of baby animals and another one in which I was very pregnant and about to give birth.

This particular dream was so beautiful that I just had to share it with you. I had it shortly after Easter, and it still makes me feel warm inside to think of it. - Pamela

“I hear a noise coming from my refrigerator. I open the door and see an egg carton that is partially open. There is a radiant light and a noisy commotion coming from inside it. I open the carton, and there’s a chick hatching. I think, `Wow, what a miracle that a chick could hatch out of those cold eggs!’

I pick the chick up and it is content, peeping, healthy and perfectly happy. I take it to show a man and a woman who are sitting at a table nearby. They’re not interested and turn their heads away, paying attention to something else. I don’t care. I love my little chick.”

Dear Pamela: I can see why you loved this dream, there’s certainly a sweetness about it. Having it so near to Easter amplifies the symbolism of birth and resurrection. Dream babies, whether animal or human, usually symbolize the birth of an idea, a project, a belief or a new part of the self. A birth announces potential and the emergence of new life energy within the dreamer.

It can also be, as William Dixon says, “The sudden opening of a window through which you look out upon a stupendous prospect.”

Birds, in general, represent freedom but your little bird is born in a refrigerator. Have you put your freedom “on ice” or in cold storage up until now? When we spoke on the phone you shared that you are in the process of creating a whole new life for yourself. Because of your excellence in the field of astrology you were asked to be a presenter at a conference. This dream arrived shortly after that invitation. Perhaps this little bird is your “hatching” of new ideas and opportunities. There is more than just one egg in your dream. Perhaps you have much more to give birth to.

Light is often thought of as “the wisdom of God.” The radiant light coming from the carton is a hint that what is within contains greater enlightenment and is a spiritual resource that could expand and radiate into every aspect of your life.

Just like in your dream, there are always some people in our lives who will not be particularly interested or inspired by everything we do. This is just a fact of life. We need to hold on to our vision for ourselves and nurture our new “babies” so that we can grow into all that we are meant to be.

Reader’s tip

Some dream symbols are so striking that we know they are important. It can be of great benefit to bring these symbols into our daily life.

For instance, a picture of a soaring eagle can be a reminder of freedom and power. A clown can remind you to lighten up. A glass egg sitting on your desk can be a reminder of creativity and the emergence of new life.

Sing your dream songs. Grow your dream flowers. Let your dreams come alive. Your inner being will see that you care, are interested and that you want to continue to grow through your dreams. If you have been given a gift in a dream, it is a powerful affirmation to give it to yourself in waking life.
