Sachse Returns To Nwl As Pitcher
Spokane’s Matt Sachse has re- turned to the Northwest League, although in a different capacity.
Sachse, a 1994 graduate of Ferris High, is listed on the pitching staff of the 2000 Everett AquaSox. Sachse also played for Everett in 1995 and ‘96, but as a right fielder.
Sachse played outfield for five seasons in the Seattle Mariners organization, hitting a career-best .305 last season at Lancaster of the Class A California League. He received a late-season call-up to Triple-A Tacoma, but had one extra-base hit and no runs batted in during 35 at-bats.
Sachse was 6-1 with a 1.36 earned-run average during his senior year at Ferris, striking out 74 in 46-1/3 innings.
Also on Everett’s roster is pitcher Mike Russo, who was 1-2 for the Spokane Indians last season.
Baseball tryouts
The Kansas City Royals will offer a tryout camp from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Avista Stadium.
The Atlanta Braves will conduct a tryout camp starting at 9 a.m. Monday at Gonzaga University and the Mariners at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Spokane Falls Community College.
The Royals and Braves camps are open to players age 15-22. The M’s minimum age is 16. Participants must bring their own equipment and bring permission letters from their American Legion coaches, if applicable.
High school football
Six area players are on the roster for Friday’s 1A/B all-star game at Yakima’s Zaepfel Stadium.
Blinn Carstensen, Almira/Coulee-Hartline; Matt Gylling, Colfax; John Payne, Kettle Falls; Chris Pauls, Davenport; and Aaron Falk and Keith Anderson, Reardan, are on the roster. Game time is 1:30 p.m.
