Battle Mountain To Have New Owner
North America’s largest gold producer is poised to get bigger.
Newmont Mining Corp. will acquire Battle Mountain Gold Co. through a merger, the two companies announced Wednesday.
The merger is scheduled for fall. It won’t affect Battle Mountain’s plans to build the first large open-pit gold mine in Washington state, officials said.
Plans for the Crown Jewel Mine in Okanogan County are currently tied up in court. Battle Mountain is appealing a January ruling that overturned the mine’s water rights and water quality permit.
Pending shareholder approval, Battle Mountain will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Newmont under the merger.
Battle Mountain’s shares will be exchanged for 0.105 shares of Newmont common stock.
Battle Mountain’s stock closed at $2.31 Wednesday, up nearly 20 percent.
