N. Idaho Gets Funds For Art Projects

A day after the Coeur d’Alene City Council awarded a contract for the police station art project, the Idaho Commission on the Arts announced Wednesday $678,000 in grants and awards for the arts.

David Clemons was given the $6,000 contract to build a steel and resin sculpted eagle that will be placed over the main entrance of the new Coeur d’Alene Police Station.

City Councilwoman Nancy Sue Wallace, who also serves as commissioner on the state art organization, announced the 2001 awards and grants to artists, art teachers and arts groups.

Other grants to local organizations are:

$8,449 to the Carousel Players of the Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre for operating support.

$7,000 to the Coeur d’Alene Community Theatre and Academy for improvements.

$4,160 to North Idaho College Diversity Events Committee for Native American Heritage Week.

$9,438 to the Festival at Sandpoint for operating support.

$3,196 to the Panida Committee for operating support.

$5,128 to the Pend Oreille Arts Council for operating support.

Arts in education grants include:

$1,875 to Music for Youth for live programs.

$1,252 to Pinehurst Elementary for a visual artist.

$5,250 to Pend Oreille Arts Council for seven concerts.

$2,540 to Community Assistance League for an art enrichment program at Bonner County Elementary School.
