Former Hayden City Council member Gordie Andrea pledged Thursday to double the reward for information that leads to the conviction of the person who cut down a tree at the corner of Sixth Street and Sherman Avenue here.

The Coeur d’Alene Downtown Association put up a $200 reward Wednesday after the Bradford flowering pear tree was cut down sometime early Wednesday.

Andrea said he will add $200 to that reward to find out who cut down the tree planted in 1986.

“I’m sure somebody knows something about it,” Andrea said. “The city pays money to beautify the city and some cockroach cuts it down. It’s inexcusable.”

Andrea hopes the reward grows to about $2,000. “If we get the reward big enough, I’m sure somebody will talk,” he said. “What they did was horrible.”
