Eugene Sines St. Maries
Burial Mass for Eugene E. Sines, 68, will be today at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in St. Maries. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Sines, who was born in St. Joe City, Idaho, died Friday.
He grew up in the St. Joe City and St. Maries areas and began working in the woods at age 13.
He later served with the Army in Germany for six years.
In 1958 he married Anne Marie Burkhard. He returned to the St. Maries area and worked as a carpenter and heavy-equipment operator in the timber industry. Mr. Sines recently worked for Wolfe Logging Co.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the American Legion, the National Rifle Association, the North American Hunting and Fishing Club and the American Association of Retired Persons.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Dale and Raymond Sines, both of St. Maries, and Jerry Sines of Post Falls; four daughters, Elizabeth Behrends of Post Falls, Denise Sochinsky of Santa, Idaho, Elaine Sullivan of Butte, Mont., and Melanine Richwine of Medimont, Idaho; his mother, Moretta Taylor of St. Maries; five brothers, Truman Sines of Harrison, Idaho, and Murl, Wesley, John and Douglas Sines, all of St. Maries; three sisters, Juanita Mokry of Plummer, Idaho, and Vicky Worthington and Susan Millikin, both of St. Maries; 18 grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
Valerie (Blankenship) Gonder Spokane
Memorial service for Valerie J. (Blankenship) Gonder, 58, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Church of the Resurrection. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Gonder, who was born in Honolulu, died Saturday.
She graduated in 1959 from Lewis and Clark High School, and later from Wenatchee Valley College.
Mrs. Gonder worked for Central Valley School District for 13 years.
She moved to California in 1990 and worked for GES Exposition Services. She retired in 1999.
After her retirement she returned to Spokane.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Gonder of Coeur d’Alene and Timothy Gonder of Federal Way, Wash.; two daughters, Katrina Kirby of Spokane and Angela DeVaux of Placentia, Calif.; her mother, Ada Blankenship of Hayden Lake, Idaho; two sisters, Pam Anderson and Kathy Allasina, both of Spokane; and five grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane or Coeur d’Alene or the American Cancer Society.
Sarah `Sallie’ Hagman Cataldo, Idaho
Service for Sarah A. “Sallie” Hagman, 70, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the United Church of Kellogg. Burial will be at Hunt Cemetery in Kingston, Idaho. Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hagman, who was born in Kellogg, died Saturday.
She was a lifetime Silver Valley resident and graduated ion 1947 from Kingston High School.
She married Lewis Hagman in 1948. Mrs. Hagman was a homemaker and a cook at Lookout Ski Hill and West Shoshone Hospital. She was active in fishing and bowling.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Daniel Hagman of Harrison, Idaho, and Steven Hagman of St. Maries; two daughters, Kathleen Atha of Veradale and Lori Sawyer of Kingston, Idaho; four sisters, Dorothy Kennedy of Grangeville, Idaho, Ethel Miller of Livingston, Mont., and Beryl Miller and Doris Groth, both of Cataldo; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Dorothy Fruechtl Colfax, Wash.
Graveside service for Dorothy A. Fruechtl, 83, was Monday at St. Thomas Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.
Mrs. Fruechtl, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Thursday.
She graduated from high school in Coeur d’Alene and later attended beauty school.
Mrs. Fruechtl was a beautician in Coeur d’Alene until 1955, when she and her husband moved to Colfax.
She owned and operated the Junction Motel in Colfax until 1991.
Her husband, Thaddeus, died in 1963.
Survivors include a daughter, Samantha Karr of Veradale; three sisters, Bernice and Elna Person, and Chestine Drischell, all of Portland; a brother, Herbert Person of Vida, Ore.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Howard Thomas Coeur d’Alene
Service for Howard J. Thomas, 89, will be held in Ambler, Pa., at a later date. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Thomas, who was born in Philadelphia, died Thursday.
He had worked as a machinist for Leeds & Northrup in North Wales, Pa. for 35 years and was a member of St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church in Ambler, and Holy Martyr Senior Citizens Group in Oreland, Pa.
Mr. Thomas moved to the Coeur d’Alene area four years ago to be near family.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
Survivors include a daughter, Judith Kozlowski of Coeur d’Alene; a son, Ronald Thomas of Ambler; three grandchildren, Stephen Kozlowski, Suzanne Siekawitch, and Phillip Thomas; and two great-grandsons.
Lois Harold Friday Harbor, Wash.
Private graveside service for Lois Louise Harold, 85, will be at 1 p.m. today at the Evergreen Cemetery in Priest River, Idaho. Memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. today at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Priest River.
Born in Priest River, Mrs. Harold died Thursday.
She graduated in 1933 as valedictorian from Priest River High School. She later graduated from Northwest Business College in bookkeeping.
Mrs. Harold lived in Spokane, Chicago, and Deer Park before marrying Leslie Harold in 1940. They lived on a farm on Fox Creek, north of Priest River, for 17 years before moving to a home near Priest River.
She worked as a bookkeeper for several businesses in Priest River.
Mrs. Harold was a member of the Blue Lake Grange, acting as secretary for several years and she was also active in the Congregational Church where she held several offices including treasurer for 20 years. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid, Pilgrim Circle and the church-sponsored Thrift Shop where she served as manager and treasurer for 10 years.
She moved to Gig Harbor four months ago to be near family.
Her husband, Leslie, died in 1998.
Survivors include four sons, Edward Harold of Tacoma, Wash., Bruce Harold of Moses Lake, Paul Harold of Falls City, Wash., and Don Harold of Milpitas, Calif.; two daughters, Sandra Harold of Friday Harbor and Judith Harold of Seattle; five grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

Marjorie Manly Priest River, Idaho
Service for Marjorie F. Manly, 66, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Spirit Lake (Idaho) Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Rathdrum, Idaho. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Knox, Ind., Mrs. Manly died Thursday.
She grew up and attended schools in rural Indiana. She married Kim Alexander and lived in Arkansas and Florida before the couple were divorced.
In 1967 she moved to Los Angeles. She married Bill Manly in 1968 and they lived in California.
Mrs. Manly had worked at various jobs, including a position with the Forest Service where she worked in campgrounds and visitor centers.
Her husband, Bill, died in 1996, and she moved to Priest River in 1999.
She attended Spirit Lake Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, James Alexander of Los Angeles, and Rev. Kim Alexander of Spirit Lake; two daughters, Pam Casados of Anderson, Calif.,, and Tina Manly, of Chico, Calif.; two brothers, Jim Van Loon of Indiana, and Roger Van Loon of California; two sisters, Nellie McCallen of California, and Joan Luna of Spokane; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Violet `Jeanie’ Peterson Coeur d’Alene
Graveside service for Violet “Jeanie” Peterson, 79, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls. English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Peterson, who died Saturday, was born in Post Falls.
She grew up and graduated from high school in Post Falls and worked as a waitress at various establishments, including Templin’s Resort and the Athletic Round Table.
In 1961 she married Donald Peterson. They lived in Alaska, Coeur d’Alene, Nevada, Boise and Spokane before returning to Coeur d’Alene in 1981.
She was active in hunting, fishing and sports.
Survivors include her husband, and one sister, Mabel Benedict of Anchorage, Alaska.

Charles Brown Coeur d’Alene
Service for Charles E. “Chuck” Brown, 69, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Assembly of God Church in Coeur d’Alene. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Grandview Cemetery in Bonners Ferry. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Brown, who was born in Aumsville, Ore., died Monday.
He graduated from high school in 1949 in Troy, Mont., and later served with the Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Brown settled in San Diego in 1957 and worked at various jobs until beginning a career in the electronics industry where he worked for 25 years.
In 1974 he married Laura Peterson. They moved to Bonners Ferry in 1990 and briefly lived in Spokane before settling in Coeur d’Alene in 1992.
He was involved with the Boy Scouts of America in California, and was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Larry and Terry Brown; a sister, Nelda Stewart of Kalispell, Mont.; two brothers, Ken Brown of Bonners Ferry, and Dennis O’Gallagher of Spokane; eight stepchildren, Ann, Katie, Tom and Bill Evans, Carol Williams, and Laura, Raymond and Dale Hughesman; two grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Gregory Jones Priest River, Idaho
Memorial service for Gregory Adams Jones, 51, was Saturday at the Priest River Softball Field.
Mr. Jones, who was born in Kittanning, Pa., died June 19. He was a 25-year Priest River resident.
He was an attorney in the Priest River and Bonner County community.
He is survived by a brother, Les Jones of Conifer, Colo.
