Crown Pacific Must Get Operating Permit

The Crown Pacific mill just west of Coeur d’Alene must get an operating permit to meet federal requirements - even though it’s already operating.

State officials said that under the permit, Crown Pacific would be required to show the mill meets emissions standards on a regular basis.

A public comment period that started Wednesday closes April 7. The state permit is required by the federal Clean Air Act.

“They’re just putting down what they’re already doing on paper,” explained Gary Reinbold, with the Idaho Division of Environmental Quality.

The public can read through copies of the permit package: two bound documents containing technical information and correspondence between Crown Pacific and the state. Packages are available at the Division of Environmental Quality in Coeur d’Alene at 2110 Ironwood Parkway and at the Coeur d’Alene Library.
