Dance Troupe To Perform ‘Cinderella, The Ballet’

Dance Theatre Northwest, a local troupe of student dancers, will stage “Cinderella, The Ballet,” a dance version of the traditional fairy tale, in two performances Saturday at The Met.

Artistic director Janet Wilder choreographed the ballet, which closely follows the storyline of the classic tale. Cinderella lives with two stepsisters and a heartless stepmother and is destined to work with the household servants. One day, a Beggar Woman stops and asks for food and is sent away by the stepmother. But Cinderella offers her a loaf of bread.

Later, Cinderella is left behind when the stepsisters leave for the Prince’s ball. The Beggar Woman reappears as Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother and presents her with a ball gown and horse-drawn carriage. But Cinderella must return by midnight when her carriage turns into a pumpkin.

Captivated by the dancing and the Prince, Cinderella loses track of time and when the clock strikes midnight, she scurries from the palace, losing her glass slipper.

With the slipper in hand, the Prince finally finds Cinderella and rescues her from a life of drudgery.

Alicia Loft will dance the role of Cinderella with guest artists Nick Bailey dancing as the Prince and Lexie Santos Van de Veer dancing as the Fairy Godmother.

Dennis Haney will narrate so the younger members of the audience can follow the storyline.

The two-hour performances will begin at 2 and 7 p.m. at The Met. Tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for students and seniors, and are available through G&B and the Academy of Dance, 14214 E. Sprague.
