Young Musicians To Be Featured
The Spokane Youth Orchestra will feature two prodigious Inland Northwest musicians as soloists as a part of The Cathedral and the Arts series this weekend at St. John’s Cathedral and tonight in Sandpoint. The concerts will feature violinist Jason Moody and organist Alexandr Kirillov.
Moody will play Sibelius’ Concerto in D minor and Kirillov will join the orchestra in Saint-Saens Symphony No. 3 (the “Organ Symphony”). The program will also include Sean Barker’s transcription of Bach’s “Little” Fugue in G minor. The Youth Orchestra’s Verne Windham, will conduct.
Moody, a senior at Sandpoint High School, has played on public radio’s “From the Top” and “A Prairie Home Companion.”
Kirillov, a junior at St. George’s School in Spokane, began his musical studies at 4 in his native Russia’s Central School of Music. He immigrated to the U.S. with his parents in 1994.
The Spokane Youth Orchestra performs twice tonight at First Lutheran Church in Sandpoint: a slightly abbreviated family concert at 4 p.m. and a complete version of the program at 7 p.m. Tickets for the Sandpoint performances are $2 for the afternoon concert, $7 for adults and $3 for students for the evening concert, available at the door.
The performances at St. John’s Cathedral are at 7 p.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, $7 for children 12 and younger, available through G&B and at the door.
