Kellogg Councilman Seeks Shepherd Seat
Kellogg businessman Ken Schueman announced this week that he will run for a seat in North Idaho’s legislative District 4, taking on Rep. Mary Lou Shepherd, D-Wallace.
Schueman, 61, is a Kellogg City Council member and owner of the Super 8 motel. This is his first shot at statewide office, he said Friday. His principal interest, he said, is the preservation and creation of jobs.
He’s also concerned about environmental issues related to cleanup of the Bunker Hill Superfund site and mining contamination throughout the basin. He said environmental issues tie together the far-flung 4th District, which includes Shoshone County and parts of Benewah and Kootenai counties.
He’s treasurer of the Silver Valley Economic Development Corp. and a member of the Silver Valley Natural Resources Coalition.
“I’m a forester by education,” said Schueman, who has lived in Kellogg for seven years. “That gives me background on many things.”
