Applications Open For Artwalk

The Pend Oreille Arts Council is sending out a call for artists to participate in Sandpoint’s summer-long extravaganza ARTWALK.

Applications will be accepted from artists who wish to exhibit original works in painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, fiber arts, ceramics, and stained glass.

The Carnegie Art Center in Walla Walla is asking for artists to submit their work to the center’s annual Regional Juried Art Show.

The show, which has been in existence since 1980, will accept all media and is open to artists living in Washington, Oregon, Idaho or Montana. The show will run from April 30 to May 27.

To receive a prospectus, call (509) 525-4270. There is an $8 nonrefundable entry free and a limit of three pieces per artist.

Battelle Video Club presents the Columbia Basin Video Festival Competition in the Tri-Cities in May.

The competition will have four categories, including comedy, drama, documentary and animation. It will feature three levels of competition within each category - adult, student and junior.

There is a maximum length of five minutes per video. Send your entry in VHS format only. Your tapes will not be returned. Both amateur and professionals are encouraged to enter.

Auditions

Auditions for “Working, A Blue Collar Musical” will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Spokane Falls Community College Playhouse, 3410 W. Fort George Wright Drive. Call 533-3608 or 533-3592 for more information.

The Valley Repertory Theatre is holding auditions for their upcoming production of “Uncle Vanya” at 7 p.m. March 20 and 21 at the theater on the southwest corner of Sprague and Pines.

They need 10 men and women to appear between the ages of 20 and 60. Production dates are set for April 28 through May 20.

Classes

The Spokane Art School is offering an Earth Day-related workshop from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 1007 N. Columbus. The workshop is designed for grades 4 and above and is free. Call the school at 328-0900 for more information.

The Community Colleges of Spokane Institute for Extended Learning announced its spring quarter classes for individuals who are 55 years old or older.

Some of those courses include: watercolor, oil painting, ceramics, China painting, drawing, seasonal crafts, writer’s workshop, the book bunch and more.

Kudos

The Washington Idaho Symphony Association received a $5,000 grant from the Allen Foundation for the Arts for its Youth Outreach Program.

Over a two-year period, the outreach project is designed to help young people experience live classical music.

The company of Dance Theatre Northwest passed a tape audition and was selected to perform at the “Dance Festival Northwest” March 25 at Corbett Theatre on the Centralia College campus in Chehalis, Wash.

Dance Theatre Northwest, 14214 E. Sprague, was one of seven companies accepted from groups in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, California, British Columbia and Alaska.
