Three Nic Pitchers Shut Down Spokane

Travis Martinek pitched one-hit ball for four innings Tuesday, lead- ing host North Idaho College to a 4-2 non-conference win over Community Colleges of Spokane.

Martinek (1-1) struck out four and walked one. Catcher Rob Sumner doubled twice and had two RBIs for the Cardinals (5-8).

Second baseman Keith Thompson was 3 for 4 with an RBI for CCS. Martinek, Adam Fritz and Jeremy Nielsen limited the Sasquatch to four hits, including Jon Swanson’s double.

Jim Bullard threw 4-1/3 shutout innings to preserve UC Santa Barbara’s 7-4 win over visiting Washington State in a non-conference game.

Bullard, a freshman left-hander, allowed three hits to earn the save. Reliever Jamie Gonzalez (1-0) earned the win.
