Sandpoint Republican Will Seek Re-Election

From Staff

Sen. Shawn Keough, R-Sandpoint, plans to run for re-election, she announced Friday.

Keough is serving her second term in the Idaho State Senate, where she sits on the Education Committee, the Resources and Environment Committee and is Vice Chairman of the Transportation Committee. She’s also been asked by Gov. Dirk Kempthorne to serve on the Task Force for Rural Development to address economic development issues in rural areas.

Keough is sponsoring about a dozen bills on a variety of issues, including public reporting of public school safety issues, funding health and safety needs for disadvantaged school districts and urging the federal government to re-open the public comment period on its roadless initiative.

Keough also supports a bill sponsored by Rep. Hilde Kellogg, R-Post Falls, to revise the state’s sales tax distribution formula to base future sales tax distribution on population growth. The current formula has been in use for 30 years.

Keough, who is a timber information specialist with the Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce, plans to officially launch her run for re-election after the close of this legislative session.
