Returning all-leaguers: First team - Matt Binder, sr., infielder, Mt. Spokane; Dan Stucky, sr., infielder, Mead; Aaron Sedler, sr., infielder, Ferris. Second team - Jeremy Smith, sr., pitcher, Mt. Spokane; Mike Kuck, sr., catcher, Rogers; Steve Hare, jr., infielder, North Central; Brett Wideman, sr., infielder, Shadle Park; Justin Hare, sr., outfielder, NC. East Valley junior infielder/pitcher Shae Lanphere was a Frontier all-leaguer.

New coach: Greg Gores, Gonzaga Prep.

Changes: EV, with veteran coach Kurt Krauth, has joined the league, up from the 3A ranks… . The double round-robin schedule was tossed out with EV’s arrival, replaced by an unbalanced 16-game slate. Such tempting matchups as Ferris vs. Mead will happen just once.

Tuesday’s openers: G-Prep at Rogers; Ferris at University; Central Valley at EV; Lewis and Clark at NC; Mead at Mt. Spokane, all 3 p.m. Shadle opens at 3 p.m. next Thursday at home vs. NC.

Busy time on Havana St.: Both the district and regional tournaments will take place at newly-renamed Avista Stadium. Possible regional challenger Kamiakin, of the Big Nine Conference, is reported to have a handful of Division I prospects.

Cream rises: Ferris, Mead and CV have all placed in the top four for four consecutive years.

Projected finish: Mead, Ferris, Mt. Spokane, CV, U-High, Shadle, NC, Rogers, EV, G-Prep, Lewis and Clark.
