Coach On Sideline For One More Game Recently Retired EV Coach Clements Leads West All-Stars

Jim Clements, who retired from East Valley after the Knights completed their first season in the GSL last fall, will be on the sidelines one more time.

Clements, who also coached at West Valley, Pullman and Coeur d’Alene in his 36-year career, is the East coach for the East-West High School All-Star Football Summer Classic, which will be played in Spokane on June 30.

The game, which features 4A and 3A players, has 10 players from the Greater Spokane League, including both most valuable players.

Offensive MVP Steve Gabriel, a running back from Shadle Park, and defensive MVP Forrest Boehlen, linebacker from Lewis and Clark, headline the GSL picks.

Three All-GSL defensive backs are on the team: Erik Coleman of LC, who has signed with Washington State; Jeremy Kruskie of North Central; and John McFarlane of Central Valley.

Three other defensive standouts also were selected: Mead lineman Tom Finnerty; Ferris linebacker Aaron Sedler; and East Valley linebacker Blake Horgan.

The other two picks are Josh Wilson of Mt. Spokane, the GSL’s top all-purpose player, and Shadle Park offensive lineman Matt Doyle.

Central Valley assistant Steve Kent is one of Clements’ assistants, along with John Balmer of Davis and Steve Graff of Pasco.

Bill Heglar of Bellevue will coach the West.

The game will be played at 7 p.m. at Albi Stadium.
