A Large Step For Mankind
Like many business people, Mick Foley arrived at work wearing a white shirt and tie. Unlike everyone else, he wore a leather mask and pounded the living daylights out of his opponents.
Foley is better known as Mankind, in his day one of the top attractions of the World Wrestling Federation. He’ll be in Spokane on Saturday at the 37th Annual Auto Boat Speed Show at the Interstate Fairgrounds.
The 35-year-old Foley recently retired after 15 years in the ring and wrote his memoir, “Have a Nice Day: A Tale of Blood and Sweatsocks.” Foley will be at the show Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. only.
The custom vehicle show runs today through Sunday and features competition in several categories, including hot rods, speed boats and motorcycles. Highlights include a $600,000 ‘55 Chevy Nomad and a purple Lincoln Zephyr, the 1999 champion custom car.
The top cash prize of $1,000 will go to the best new Washington entry never shown before.
This year there are 160 entries, with more than 50 from Spokane. Hours are noon to 10 p.m. today; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
Admission is $9.50 for adults; $8.50 for seniors, military and students; and $3 for ages 6-12. Tickets are available at the door. Children under age 6 get in free.
