Beers Leads Nic Sweep

Laura Beers had six hits and seven runs batted in Wednesday to lead North Idaho College to a 10-1, 10-3 non-conference softball sweep of Weber State at Ogden, Utah.

Beers tripled twice and had five RBIs in the second game, which ended after six innings. Jackie Suden of the Cardinals (11-5) was 3 for 4 in the second game and 5 for 7 overall.

Mandy Lawson went 3 for 4 during the five-inning second game. Lawson, Beers and Katy Oglesbee had two RBIs apiece to support Cheryl Andrizzi, who struck out six and walked none.

Whitworth (2-6) was held to three singles during a non-conference doubleheader loss to Eastern Oregon at La Grande, Ore.

Katie Barnette (7-1) pitched a two-hitter as the Mountaineers (15-2) won the opener 2-0. Crissie Bacon had an RBI single for the Pirates in the third. She doubled and scored in the fifth.

Annie Buck’s fourth-inning infield single was the only hit allowed by Robin Lisak (9-1) during the 15-0 nightcap. EOSC had a 14-run, 11-hit fourth inning highlighted by Tara Pichette’s bases-clearing triple.

Baseball

Starter Darrin Trautmann (1-0) earned his first collegiate win as Gonzaga blanked visiting Whitworth 6-0 in a non-conference game.

The Bulldogs registered their first shutout in more than a year.

Trautmann was awarded the win despite pitching just three innings. Among the 12 hits that GU (14-12) collected was the first in college for John Gebbers.

Adam Stokey doubled twice and Jared Hertz homered for the Bulldogs. Aaron Keller went 2 for 3 for the Pirates (7-13).
