Probation Ordered In Sex Abuse Case
A Coeur d’Alene man found guilty of sexual abuse was sentenced to five years of supervised probation and will be required to register as a sex offender.
First District Judge Gary Haman on Tuesday suspended a prison sentence of 10 years, one of which is fixed and nine of which are indeterminate. Haman also ordered Setzer not be around any children younger than 13 without adult supervision.
Charles William Setzer, 66, was found guilty of touching a 6-year-old girl, a family friend, in 1998. The two were at a church prayer session, when Setzer asked her to go to his car.
Setzer admitted asking the girl to marry him. He claimed the sexual contact was an accident, said Kootenai County Deputy Prosecutor Jim Daugherty.
A jury found Setzer guilty after a four-day trial in February.
