Post Falls Wraps Up Fifth Spot

Rosie Parrott pitched a one-hitter and struck out eight Friday, and visiting Post Falls defeated Sandpoint 1-0 to lock up the No. 5 seed to the A-1 Region I softball tournament.

The second game of the Border League doubleheader was rained out, but the Trojans (5-13) had already assured that Sandpoint (2-14) would be the No. 6 seed to region.

Post Falls plays at No. 4 Moscow (8-11) and Sandpoint travels to No. 3 Lewiston (11-6) in Monday’s 4 p.m. loser-out openers. No. 1 Coeur d’Alene and No. 2 Lake City, both 16-3, have opening-round byes.

PF’s Jayme Smith singled in the first inning and later scored on Shannon McCormick’s sacrifice fly. Sandpoint’s Shasta Burnach allowed five hits and struck out four.

Priest River’s non-league game at Timberlake was rescheduled for Tuesday.

Baseball

T.J. Rider had a two-run single during a three-run first, and Lake City (8-11) went on to an 8-6 Border League win at Post Falls (5-14). PF’s Steve Alegria hit a two-run homer in the sixth… . The league season ends today with Lewiston’s doubleheader at Sandpoint (7-10) to determine the Nos. 3-5 seeds to the A-1 Region I tournament. Lake City and Moscow are both 8-11. PF, the No. 6 seed, opens Monday at the No. 3, while the No. 5 travels to the No. 4. Top-seeded Coeur d’Alene (16-3) and No. 2 Lewiston (14-3) have opening-round byes.
