4-H Contests Post Top Placers

Kootenai and Shoshone County 4-H members ranging in age from 8-18 recently participated in the annual County 4-H Dog Bowl.

Competitors are quizzed on their knowledge and understanding of dog training, care, breeds, physiology, and anatomy.

The top scorers are listed.

First place, Jenny Little, Rathdrum; tied for second place, Molly Little, Rathdrum, and Katrina Dryden, Post Falls; third place, Annette Seher, Post Falls; and fourth place, Kayla Ward, Spirit Lake.

Other Dog Bowl participants and their hometowns are listed.

Samantha Kyle, Athol; Hanna Gardner, Whitney Randolph, Kaylee Nowoj, Travis Haynes, Sheena Braulick and Andrew Wasserman, all of Coeur d’Alene; Haley Hollenbach, Dani Page, Lynnette Page, and Leah Vetsch, all of Dalton Gardens; Carley Thompson, Hayden; Cayle Stevens, Hayden Lake; Paige Staley, Annette Seher, Jessica Seher, Jennifer Lindsey Shore, Ryan Booth, Katrina Dryden, Logan Hutchins, Anna Wagner, Nicole Booth, and Valena Barry, all of Post Falls; Bonnie Little, Molly Little and Jenny Little, all of Rathdrum; and Sarah Pennington of Spirit Lake.

Kootenai and Shoshone County 4-H youth participated in the District I Activities Festival held in Moscow last month.

Ribbons and scholarships for 4-H activities were presented for Oral Presentation, Natural Resource Identification, and the Horse Bowl.

Oral presentation

Purple ribbon recipients: Anne Radavich, Post Falls, and Lindsay Stilwell, Hayden Lake, both also received $50 scholarships; Molly Little, Rathdrum, Lauren Riley, Hayden, and Bradley Ost, Post Falls, also received $25 scholarships; Alise Johnson, Athol; Hanna Smith, Emily Pruitt, Kerri Ann Wright, Sara Smith, and Chantel McKinney, all of Rathdrum; Nicole Dupont, and Megan McMaster, both of Hayden; Amy Thompson, and Erin O’Linger, both of Hayden Lake; and Melissa Spridgeon, Post Falls.

Horse Bowl

Kootenai and Shoshone County won the district bowl for the fourth consecutive year and will compete for the state title in Blackfoot, Idaho, in July.

Team members are Nicole Darty, of Post Falls, Danielle Reid, of Coeur d’Alene, and Christina Lohman, Mandi McCoy, and Katie Stanford, all of Rathdrum.

Natural Resources Identification Contest

Austin Little, Rathdrum, earned the top score and a $130 scholarship; and Shirley Little, leader of the Rathdrum Whistle Stop 4-H Club, received a belt buckle as the top participant in the adult division.

Jennifer Crupper, a junior at Lakeland High School and daughter of Burt and Joy Crupper of Rathdrum, recently represented Idaho at the National 4-H Conference in Washington, D.C.

Crupper, who has been involved in 4-H for nine years and is currently a member of the Mountain Gem 4-H Club, was selected based on her leadership skills and a commitment to learning from others and teaching new skills learned at the conference.

She plays the piano and keyboard and is involved in high school band, jazz band and marching band. Her 4-H projects include sheep, horse, dairy goat, sewing, leathercraft, teen leadership, darkroom techniques and veterinary science.
