Bad weather didn’t keep a couple West Valley athletes from getting up for the District 7 meet.

Literally.

Jenny Gregorak added 3 inches to her best, moving into fifth place in the state rankings with an effort of 10-feet, 9-inches in the pole vault.

Sara Biesen cleared 5-3-1/2 in the high jump, adding 18 inches to her best in upsetting area-leader Katie Moat of Clarkston.

The Frontier League meet at West Valley had 11 finals Thursday. The remaining 24 will be run today, beginning at 2 p.m. The top four in the distance races and field events advance to regional next week at Richland. In the sprints, the No. 4 time will be compared to the No. 7 time from the Mid-Valley League to fill out the 10-lane field.

In the girls long jump, Kelly Cole of West Valley matched the league lead with a 16-1/2 effort. In the boys long jump, Colville’s Justin Drake went 21-6, 18 inches short of his best.

The Colville girls ran 1 minute, 50.1 seconds in the 800 relay, .3 seconds slower than their area best.
