Bail Set For Man Charged In Shootout
A man who allegedly overpowered a Kootenai County jailer and fled from the courthouse in February is being held at the Kootenai County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail.
Martin A. Schorzman, 40, appeared before 1st District Magistrate Benjamin Simpson on Thursday for charges of attempted first-degree murder and escape charges.
Simpson set Schorzman’s bail at $500,000. Schorzman, an alleged meth manufacturer and dealer, has a string of charges ranging from domestic violence to drug charges.
He was allegedly involved in a Feb. 8 shootout with an Idaho Fish and Game officer near DeSmet, Idaho. Neither Schorzman or the officer were injured, police said.
Schorzman was transported to Boise for a mental evaluation after 1st District Judge James Judd ordered the tests in February before sentencing Schorzman on two unrelated methamphetamine charges.
