Gabriel Named Cda Fire Chief
Kenny Gabriel, a nine-year veteran with the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department, was named the city’s fire chief Wednesday.
Gabriel, now an engineer, replaces Rick Lasky, who announced his resignation last month. Lasky accepted a job as fire chief in Lewisville, Texas, a job he sought so he could live closer to family.
“We’re excited about Kenny being the next chief,” Mayor Steve Judy said. “He brings great communication skills, community support, high energy and enthusiasm to the position.”
In addition to Lasky’s post, the city still is trying to find a new city administrator, police chief and finance director.
On Wednesday, leading police chief candidate Thomas Cronin was in town. He met with city officials Tuesday and attended a public open house Wednesday morning. Cronin, now a commander with the Chicago Police Department, is the only remaining candidate for the police chief’s job.
A candidate for the city administrator post will be interviewed Friday, and three others will be next week.
Just one finalist remains for the vacant finance director’s post.
