Durward Haagenson Bonners Ferry
Service for Durward O. Haagenson, 94, will be today at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bonners Ferry. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Bonners Ferry. Bonners Ferry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Haagenson, who was born in Minnesota, died Thursday.
He moved to Divide County, N.D., in 1913 and received his education there. He worked as a farmhand in various states, including North Dakota and Oklahoma. Mr. Haagenson also worked in the timber industry in Oregon before settling in Boundary County in 1937, where he purchased land in the North Bench area and became a farmer.
In 1940 he married Fern “Kate” Cady. They farmed in the Bonners Ferry area for more than 40 years. He also drove a school bus and worked at the Boundary Farmer Supply, OK Tire Shop, Sims Implement Co., and as a dairy farmer.
Mr. Haagenson was a past chairman and member of the Boundary County Agriculture Stabilization Conservation Service.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
Survivors include a son, Dean Haagenson, and a daughter, Darlene Nason, both of Coeur d’Alene; a sister, Lenora Nelson of Bonners Ferry; and two grandsons.
Don Dinius Spokane
Memorial Mass for Don D. Dinius, 70, will be at 11 a.m. today at St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Post Falls, Mr. Dinius died Monday.
His family moved to the Spokane Valley in 1936. He graduated from West Valley High School in 1947.
He served in the Naval Reserves from the late 1940s to the early 1950s.
In 1951 he married Dorothy Froehlich.
Mr. Dinius worked in the automotive repair business. In 1975 he and his wife formed D&D Auto Body Repair, Inc., which he operated until retiring in 1991.
He served on the advisory board for Spokane Community College. Mr. Dinius was a member of the Early Ford V-8 Club, the National Street Rod Association and the Painted Hills Men’s Golf Club. He was also a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Debbie Forbes of Fallbrook, Calif.; and two sisters, June Brown of Post Falls and Joyce Hodgson of Spokane.
Lury `Lew’ Redmond Coeur d’Alene
Memorial service for Lury B. “Lew” Redmond, 89, will be held Nov. 11 at 1 p.m. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene.
Mr. Redmond, who was born in Georgia, died Oct. 22.
He grew up and graduated from high school in Monroe, Ga. He received an electrical engineering degree from Georgia Tech and began a 35-year career with Mobil Oil.
In 1937, he was transferred to the Geophysical Lab in Dallas, where he was involved with the invention of a seismic recording galvanometer that was patented and used in the oil industry for many years.
Mr. Redmond was an Army Reserve officer and served on active duty as a director of personnel and chief of personnel in the United States, and in Europe in the Signal Corps during World War II. He was released from active duty as a colonel in 1946 and received seven medals, including a Bronze Star.
Mr. Redmond then returned to Mobil Oil as an employee relations manager and had assignments in Texas, Colorado, Canada, Tripoli, Libya, and New York City.
In 1966 he married Laura Wilson. They retired to Coeur d’Alene in 1971.
He had served on the boards of the American Red Cross, The Jewett House, City Planning and Zoning, and the Civil Service Commissions Arbitration.
Mr. Redmond was a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church, where he was involved with committees on the local, presbytery and synod levels in Spokane and Seattle.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Glenn Redmond of Dallas; three stepsons, Gary Wilson of Montreal, Grant Wilson of Ottowa, Ontario, and Allen Wilson of Penticton, British Columbia; one grandson and three stepgrandchildren.
Dolores Gambill Spokane
Visitation for Dolores Florence Gambill, 85, will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Service is planned for 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Mrs. Gambill, who was born in Minneapolis, died Oct. 19.
She was an 80-year Spokane resident and a homemaker.
Her husband, Charlie, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Ethel Christianson of Spokane; a son, Chuck Gambill of Spokane; a sister, Arlene Buckner of Oregon; and three grandchildren.
LuCille (Olson) Bauman Spokane
Visitation for A. LuCille (Olson) Bauman, 91, will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Service is planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
Mrs. Bauman, who was born in Metamora, Mich., died Wednesday.
Her family moved to Spokane in 1921 from North Dakota.
She graduated in 1927 from North Central High School.
During the 1940s she worked as a window display artist for Montgomery Ward. In the 1950s she worked as an instructor for the Arthur Murray Dance Studio. She also had worked as an artist.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the Spokane Art Club and the Art Club in Bonners Ferry. Survivors include a daughter, Rosada Houk, and a son, Dan Olson, both of Spokane; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
James Waterbury Hayden, Idaho
Visitation for James “Jim” Waterbury, 68, will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel. Service will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Hayden chapel with a reception to follow. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.
Mr. Waterbury, who was born in Bay City, Mich., died Wednesday.
He grew up and attended high school in Bay City and then served in the Navy from 1950 to 1953.
Mr. Waterbury married Eunice Lonsberry in 1953 and the couple lived in Indiana and Iowa before settling in California in 1957, where he worked for General Motors until retiring. They moved to Dalton Gardens in 1988.
He moved to Hayden in 1995.
Mr. Waterbury enjoyed fishing and was a Little League Baseball manager in California.
Survivors include his wife, Eunice; two sons, William and James Waterbury, both of California; a daughter, Valerie Casey of St. Marys, Ga.; a brother, Douglas Waterbury of Bothell, Wash.; two sisters, Florence Bloom and Barbara Ferrier, both of Coeur d’Alene; and four grandchildren.
