The Ducks came out and went up top immediately on a 48-yard pass play from Joey Harrington to Marshaun Tucker. The Cougars forced the Ducks into a fourth-and-1 at the 8. But on a misdirection pitch, Morris went into the end zone untouched.

Oregon 7, Washington State 7: Adam Hawkins 1-yard run. Anousith Wilaikul kick. Four plays, 73 yards, 1:19. Washington State dipped into its bag of tricks on its first series. Collin Henderson received a backward pass and hit Nakoa McElrath for a 56-yard gain to the Oregon 3-yard line.

Washington State 10, Oregon 7: Wilaikul 41-yard field goal. Five plays, 25 yards, 1:28. Jason Gesser found Milton Wynn for a 26-yard gain to set up the field-goal attempt. The drive stalled after Gesser threw two incompletions and Deon Burnett lost a yard rushing.

Oregon 13, Washington State 10: Rashad Bauman 42-yard interception return. Kick blocked. Gesser was trying to hit Milton Wynn in the flat, but Bauman broke on the ball and went right into the end zone.

Second quarter

Oregon 16, Washington State 10: Frankel 46-yard field goal. Four plays, eight yards, 1:29. The Cougars allowed a 37-yard punt return to their own 37, setting up Oregon’s second straight score. The Cougars defense did hold. But Frankel, who was 9 of 19 coming into the game, hit the field goal.

Washington State 17, Oregon 16: Dave Minnich 2-yard run. Wilaikul kick. Ten plays, 54 yards, 3:46. Matt Kegel came in for Gesser, who had been injured, and directed his first scoring drive as a Cougar. Fourth quarter

Washington State 24, Oregon 16: Kegel 1-yard run. Wilaikul kick. Thirteen plays, 71 yards, 6:33. The Cougars converted two fourth-down plays on the drive. Both were quarterback sneaks. The second one was for the touchdown. Kegel also hit Wynn with a 43-yard pass on the drive.

Washington State 24, Oregon 24: Tucker 38-yard pass from Harrington. Conversion, Kennan Howry pass from Harrington. The Cougars were forced to punt from their own 5-yard-line into the wind. Oregon got the ball on the 40 and made quick work of it. Harrington hit Tucker when Marcus Trufant bit on a pump fake.

Overtime

Oregon 27, Washington State 24: Frankel 47-yard field goal. Four plays, minus-4 yards. Washington State’s defense forced the Ducks to go for field goal in the first overtime. Frankel, who had earlier hit his career long from 46 yards, got this one from 47 to win the game.
