In books, Zen sentiments sell millions. In movies, they’re usually panned by critics. “The Legend of Bagger Vance” is about Zen and golf, which makes it an even harder sell. But Robert Redford manages to create a kind of movie magic that skillfully blends Buddha-like themes with good performances by Will Smith and Matt Damon.
