Benewah County Plummer

October students of the month were recently named at Lakeside Elementary School. Citizen of the month is D. J. Bender, Alic Hendricks is most improved student of the month, and Saundra Curley is student of the month.

Bonner County Sandpoint

Ron McFarland, author and English professor at the University of Idaho, will read some of his poetry and prose at 7 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Sandpoint Library. McFarland’s shorty story, “Different Words for Snow,” recently won the Dr. O. Marvin Lewis Prize from Weber Studies. His newest full-length book is “Stranger in Town.”

Boundary County Bonners Ferry

Kootenai County Coeur d’Alene

The Kootenai County Treasurer’s office has sent out the 2000 tax notices, but, due to a computer problem, mailed duplicate notices to Coeur d’Alene city residents. The treasurer suggests checking the amount and the date the taxes are due to verify a duplicate notice. For more information, or if you don’t get a notice by Dec. 1, call (208) 769-4445.

Latah County Moscow

Dr. Anthony Branz recently purchased the Osburn Medical Clinic from Shoshone Medical Center. Branz formerly practiced family medicine in SMC’s Kellogg and Pinehurst clinics. Pend Oreille County Newport

Families fearing a sparse Christmas can sign up for the local Sharing Tree project. Needy families are invited to sign up at the local Department of Social and Health Services office, 1600 W. First. Kids 17 and younger are eligible for a special Christmas gift. Those wishing to receive a gift do not have to be clients of DSHS to qualify. To give or receive a gift, call (509) 447-3192.

Spokane County Spokane Valley

Bowdish Junior High School ninth-graders will ask Spokane Valley shoppers to help “Fill The Bus” on Saturday to benefit the Valley Food Bank. About 20 students and a Central Valley school bus will be on hand, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Albertson’s on Highway 27. By midweek more than 400 families had signed up at the Valley Food Bank to receive food for Thanksgiving dinner.

Whitman County Colfax

The county Health Department is still short of flu vaccine. While some 550 county residents have gotten their shots, the department has had to turn away a number of people who do not qualify as “high risk.” The county normally gives out about 1,500 doses by mid-November. The Heath Department hopes to receive more vaccine shipments in December.

Lincoln County Libby

The City Council recently accepted the resignation of Councilman Joe Johnston. Johnston indicated in a letter to the council he is concerned about his health. Applications for Johnston’s seat will be accepted by the council and an appointment will be made at a later date.
