Summary: Eastern coach Ray Giacoletti got some good news during the weekend when he learned Aaron Olson suffered only a bone chip - not a fracture, as first feared - in the little finger of his shooting hand during Friday’s season-opening loss to Gonzaga. As a result, the senior forward is expected to miss less than a week. It’s unlikely the Eagles (0-1) will need his services against Evergreen State, an NAIA school located in Olympia. The Geoducks (0-2) have a decent player in 6-foot-4 forward Jackie Robinson (15 points per game). But their losses have come to Xavier of Louisiana (83-68) and William Carey of Mississippi (92-78). ‘Nuff said.
Western Montana at Idaho

Summary: The Vandals (0-1) have thumped Western Montana the last four years by scores of 87-58, 70-54, 85-61 and 84-53. Western, an NAIA Division II school, is 2-2. Leading scorer Josh Frunz is averaging 24 points per game. He scored six against Idaho last year… . The Dome is being restyled to be more basketball friendly, but those changes (new lighting grid, scoreboard and a curtain enclosing the bleachers) won’t be in place until next month.
