Deq Wants Comment On Water-Quality Issues

From Staff Reports

The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality wants public comment on proposals to address water quality problems in the Upper North Fork of the Clearwater River Basin.

Based on recent studies, DEQ is recommending plans to limit pollution for 17 of 19 streams in the basin.

The agency is also recommending that pollution plans - called Total Maximum Daily Loads, or TMDLs - be lifted on the two remaining streams that meet water quality requirements of the federal Clean Water Act.

Copies of the proposals are available for comment starting today through Dec. 21 at DEQ’s Lewiston office, the University of Idaho Library, the Clearwater Memorial Public Library, the Lapwai City Library, the Palouse Clearwater Environmental Institute office and at the DEQ Web page www2.state.id.us/deq.

Send comments to: Tom Dechert, DEQ Lewiston Regional Office, 1118 F Street, Lewiston ID 83501. For more information, call (208) 799-4370.
