Jacob `Jake’ Dodge Coeur d’Alene
Service for Jacob “Jake” Benjamin Dodge, 58, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at First Assembly of God Church in Coeur d’Alene. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Dodge, who was born in Pinehurst, Idaho, died Thursday from injuries received in a tractor accident at his home.
He spent his childhood traveling with his parents who were missionaries throughout the United States and overseas, and attended grade school in Maui, Hawaii.
Mr. Dodge later attended high school and International Bible College in San Antonio.
He married Barbara Burgess in 1965.
He started a career with General Electric in Seattle before serving two years with the Army during the Vietnam War.
After his military service, Mr. Dodge returned to Seattle and resumed his job at General Electric.
He moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1969 and worked for Hunt Brothers Construction before operating Norm’s Utility Contracting for the past 20 years.
He served on various community boards and commissions and was involved in the construction of many area subdivisions. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Coeur d’Alene.
Mr. Dodge recently began attending Pleasant View Church in Post Falls.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Duane and David Dodge, and a daughter, Diana, all of Coeur d’Alene; his mother, Cecelia Dodge of Utopia, Texas; four sisters, Juanita Hyman and Naomi Grove, both of San Antonio, Faith Bolton of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Mary Faulkner of Dallas; and six brothers, Dan, Paul and David Dodge, all of Utopia, Sam Dodge of Milaca, Minn., Amos Dodge of Vienna, Va., and Tim Dodge of Malvern, Ark. Walter Green St. Maries
Service for Walter J. Green, 78, will be today at 11 a.m. at Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries with a reception to follow at the St. Maries Elks Lodge.
Mr. Green, who was born in Iron River, Wis., died Saturday.
He grew up in Cocolalla and Harrison, Idaho, and later worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps in Emida and Chatcolet, Idaho, near St. Maries.
Mr. Green served with the Army in Europe from 1942 to 1945.
After his military discharge, He moved to Coeur d’Alene and married Lola Howe. The couple divorced in 1962, and he married Zella McCaw that same year.
The couple lived in Coeur d’Alene, and he built self-loading logging trucks and also operated heavy equipment in the timber industry.
He moved to the Washington coast in 1971 and worked in the commercial fishing industry. He moved to St. Maries in 1974 and returned to work in the timber industry.
His wife died in 1998.
Mr. Green enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include a son, Roy Green of St. Maries; a stepdaughter, Celia Turner of Coeur d’Alene; a brother, Harvey Green of Post Falls; five sisters, Willa, Dorothy, Lucille, Alice and Lorraine; and three grandchildren.
Bernadine (Williams) Schluter Spokane
Visitation for Bernadine M. (Williams) Schluter, 84, will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to noon Thursday at Heritage Funeral Home. Service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park.
Mrs. Schluter, who was born in Clarkston, Wash., died Saturday.
She graduated from Chewelah (Wash.) High School in 1935, and in 1937 married Carl Schluter.
Mrs. Schluter was a 78-year Spokane County resident and a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Lyle Schluter of Elk, Gene Schluter of Fairfield and Virgil Schluter of Moscow, Idaho; three daughters, Gwynne Forgey of Veradale, Anita Lucenti of Colbert and Carolee Madsen of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; a brother, Keville Williams of Elk; a sister, Eileen Heinen of Spokane; 22 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
Erna Lyons Kellogg
Memorial service for Erna Adella Lyons, 95, will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Mountain Valley Care and Rehab Center in Kellogg. Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Lyons, who was born in Gifford, Idaho, died Sunday.
She graduated from Kellogg High School in 1923 and married Francis Lyons in 1927.
A homemaker, she was a longtime Silver Valley resident and enjoyed gardening, cooking and family events.
She was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Kellogg.
Her husband died in 1972.
Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Field of Kellogg; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a daughter-in-law.

Irene (Brazington) Petersen Spokane
Service for Irene G. (Brazington) Petersen, 77, will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Petersen, who was born in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, died Saturday.
She was a Spokane resident for over 40 years.
During World War II she worked as an airplane riveter in Spokane.
Mrs. Petersen later worked as a seamstress.
Survivors include a son, Lester Petersen of Spokane; three daughters, Donna Walling and Debra McLean, both of Spokane, and Darlene Budwick of New York; a brother, Elmer Brazington of Post Falls; 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Orrin Hutchinson Spokane
Memorial service for Orrin M. Hutchinson, 80, will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Charles Roman Catholic Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A 54-year Spokane resident, Mr. Hutchinson died Saturday. He was born in Worcester, Mass.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and worked as a mechanic for Washington Water Power for 37 years.
He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and choir.
Survivors include his wife, Constance; two sons, Grant Ritchie of Sacramento, Calif., and Mark Ritchie of Red Lion, Pa.; three daughters, Rita Hutchinson and Sharon Leifer, both of Spokane, and Shelley Hutchinson of Portland; a sister, Marjorie Dumaine of Worcester; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Marcella Lamson Deer Park
Service for Marcella Jayne Lamson, 35, will be at 2 p.m. today at Open Door Congregational Church in Deer Park. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Deer Park. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.
A lifetime Deer Park resident, Miss Lamson died Saturday.
She graduated in 1984 from Deer Park High School.
Survivors include her mother, Daine Lamson; a brother, David Lamson Jr.; and her grandparents, Helen Craig and Omer and Evelyn Craig, all of Deer Park.
Jeanne `Peg’ (Pope) Maxey Spokane
Memorial service for Jeanne Margaret “Peg” (Pope) Maxey, 87, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Maxey, who was born in Fremont, Neb., died Saturday.
Her family later moved to Chadron, Neb., where she graduated from high school.
In 1935 she graduated from the University of Nebraska.
She taught school in Nebraska and Selah, Wash., until marrying Leonard Maxey in 1941. She then became a homemaker. They moved to Spokane in 1948.
She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, First Presbyterian Church, the Lucia Pratt Circle, the Women of Rotary and the Manito Golf and Country Club.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Jeanne Reese of Hayden Lake, Idaho, Barbara Johnson of Redmond, Wash., and Julie Soto of Issaquah, Wash.; six grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Elmer Hitchcock Spokane
Visitation for Elmer S. Hitchcock, 75, will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Ball and Dodd Funeral HomeNorth. Graveside service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Mr. Hitchcock, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Saturday.
During World War II he served in the Navy and was aboard the destroyer Ammen in the South Pacific. He received a Bronze Star, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two bronze stars and the Victory Ribbon.
Mr. Hitchcock moved to Spokane in 1948 and attended the Spokane Trade School.
He worked as a boiler room operator for the Veterans Administration Hospital from 1950 to 1980.
Mr. Hitchcock was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1474.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Helen; two sons, James Hitchcock of Spokane and John Hitchcock of Hayden Lake, Idaho; two daughters, Rosa Reames of Spokane and Jennie Henderson of Vancouver, Wash.; a brother, Vernon Hitchcock of Coeur d’Alene; and five grandchildren.
Richard Zilbert Spokane
No service will be held for Richard A. “Dick” Zilbert, 70, at his request. The Neptune Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Zilbert died Saturday. He was born in Grand Rapids, Mich., and graduated from high school there.
From 1948 to 1950 he served in the Navy.
Mr. Zilbert worked as an electronics technician for Boeing in Seattle for 31 years. He retired in 1985 and moved to Spokane 15 years ago.
He played the tuba in the El Katif Shrine and Eagles Lodge 2 bands. Mr. Zilbert was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite Bodies.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Billie; a son, Frank Zilbert of Colville, Wash.; a daughter, Susan Prince of Sequim, Wash.; a sister, Joy Seward of Coeur d’Alene; and five grandchildren.

Theodore Pratt Rice, Wash.
Memorial service for Theodore A. “Ted” Pratt, 69, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville, Wash.
Mr. Pratt, who was born in Baker, Mont., died Friday.
His family moved to Rice, Wash., when he was three years old.
After graduating from Kettle Falls (Wash.) High School he joined the Army. He served for two years as an engineer.
In 1956 he married Dorothy Lewis.
He was a farmer and had also worked for Avey’s Lumber Co., Great Northern Railway, LaFerty’s Transportation and in the logging industry. He retired in 1990 due to a logging injury.
Mr. Pratt was a 20-year member of the Kettle Falls American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dale Pratt of Marysville, Wash., and Frank Pratt of Portland; a daughter, Sandra Hartill of Rice; a sister, Lillian Northrup of Woodland, Wash.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

John `Stan’ Short Coeur d’Alene
Memorial service for John Stanley “Stan” Short, 73, was held Tuesday at Riverview Retirement Center Chapel in Spokane.
Mr. Short, who was born in Spokane, died Thursday.
He grew up in Spokane and attended both Lewis and Clark and Rogers high schools. He married Margaret Odegard in 1948.
Mr. Short served with the Marine Corps during World War II and fought in the Okinawa and Saipan campaigns, where he earned the Purple Heart Award. He was a member of the occupying forces on mainland Japan at the end of the war.
After his military service he returned to Spokane and attended Gonzaga University and graduated from Eastern Washington University in 1952.
Mr. Short worked for Prudential Distributors of Spokane and was transferred to Walla Walla. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Shriners.
The couple later moved to Coeur d’Alene.
Survivors include his wife; three children, Christine Lowry of Olympia, John Short Jr. of Albuquerque, N.M., and Stephen Short of Hamilton, Mont.; a brother, Charles Short of Adams, Ore.; two sisters, Jean Mann of Ontario, Ore., and Barbara Curtis of Monroe, Wash.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Leah Arter Loon Lake, Wash.
Visitation for Leah Beth Arter, 21, will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Memorial service will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 5322 N. Evergreen.
Born in Spokane, Miss Arter died Wednesday.
She graduated from West Valley High School and received an associate’s degree in electronics technology from ITT.
Miss Arter moved to Loon Lake 1 1/2 years ago.
She had worked as an assembler for Telect in Liberty Lake.
Survivors include her father, Doug Arter; her mother, Camille Arter; three brothers, Matt, Seth and Joel Arter; and her grandparents, Alvin and Barbara Beetham, and Jason and Lorraine Arter.
Minnie Flower Spokane
Memorial service for Minnie Echard Flower, 101, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Rockwood South. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Greenville, Va., Mrs. Flower died Saturday.
Her family moved to Garfield, Wash., in 1908.
She graduated from Cheney Normal School and began teaching elementary school in 1918 in Garfield.
In 1923 she moved to Spokane and began teaching for Spokane schools. She taught until she married Claude Flower in 1935.
They lived in Rockford until 1966, when they returned to Spokane. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Flower had been a resident of Rockwood Manor since 1977.
Her husband died in 1988.
She is survived by a daughter, Virginia Flower of Pasco.
