Help With Airport Requires Work First
Money is available from the Federal Aviation Administration for improvements at the Sandpoint Airport, but the FAA wants to see a master plan first.
“They match very generously,” Airport Advisory Board member JP Carver said Thursday. “But they won’t give it to you on a wish and a prayer.”
So the Bonner County commissioners voted Thursday to negotiate with Armstrong Consultants of Colorado to draw up a new master plan. A final cost for the work hasn’t been decided, but the last plan was about $65,000.
The plan will address issues such as the need for safety measures, such as fencing to keep out wildlife, and specifications for runways and taxiways to accommodate twin-engine jets and other planes.
